MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI - A new app for Muskegon Heights residents is a one-stop-shop to connect with city services, including the police and fire departments. “We have no communication with citizens outside of radio or maybe water bills,” said Muskegon Police Chief Maurice Sain. “We talked about an app years ago but that didn’t go, so I’m excited to be able to bring that resource to our community.” The city of Muskegon Heights app launched in November. Residents can download the app for free from Apple and Google Play smartphone app stores. Resident can access various city departments for information and pay bills, including for water and sewer and taxes. The app is a resource to connect to city hall, city inspections, public works, police, fire, downtown development and Brownfield redevelopment authorities as well as local businesses. Residents can also find contact information and click through to connect with the mayor, council members, city manager, police chief and fire chief. The app may also be used to alert residents to an emergency, like the water main shut off that affected the entire city earlier this year. “Every department head has the capability of putting information in that’s relevant to the city,” Sain said. There is also a button in the top-right corner that shows current weather. On the bottom menu, a resources tab lists county-wide organizations and their contact numbers. The app was created by TheGovApp.com Custom Mobile Apps. City officials did not provide how much was invested in the new tool prior to publication. Want more Muskegon-area news?
